🔗A game changer with a downside
When Microsoft announced roaming signatures back in 2020, they sounded like a game changer: no more local signature storage, a consistent experience across devices, and, finally, a solution to the one-signature limitation in on-premises Outlook on the web.
Fast forward to the end of 2026. Roaming signatures are now enabled in virtually all tenants, but important limitations remain:
- Microsoft does not offer a management tool.
- Persistent bugs remain unresolved, including encoding conversion issues.
- Outlook doesn't support roaming signatures on all platforms.
At Set-OutlookSignatures and ExplicIT, we're convinced that roaming signatures are the future. But because Microsoft's implementation remains incomplete, we've invested heavily in extending and stabilizing roaming-signature support within Set-OutlookSignatures. The result is a set of capabilities no other solution on the market can match.
For most clients, our recommendation is straightforward:
- Enable roaming signatures in your tenant.
- Disable them on the client side.
- Let Set-OutlookSignatures handle the rest, whether in client or SimulateAndDeploy mode.
This approach enables central administration of roaming signatures while working around recurring Outlook bugs. Together with the Outlook add-in, it also extends roaming signatures to Outlook platforms that don't support them natively: macOS, iOS, and Android.
